  • Central Dominates Bridge Building CompetitionCentral Dominates Bridge Building Competition

Three classes from Central participated in the Engineers Alliance for the Arts Bridge Design Competition. The students worked with mentor engineers and architects to design and build models of bridges for one of two scenarios: a Highway Bridge over the Pacific Gate of the Panama Canal and a Pedestrian Bridge between the MUNI Station and the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. The bridge models had to meet specific criteria, including the ability to hold a specified number of bricks. The competition was judged by a panel of engineers according to performance in aesthetics, structural considerations, and written and verbal presentations. Three places were awarded for each scenario and Central teams almost swept the whole competition by placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Panama Scenario and 1st and 2nd in the San Francisco Scenario, including the overall winner for the competition.
